Bonjour Fellow athletic enthusiasts!
How fast did January go? We have had a busy and very cold month as two of our four Winter Series have been completed. Our first race was a pretty frigid day, where your face did not warm up until the second loop and the second race, just this past Sunday, was a balmy, almost spring like day. Hope all that came out enjoyed themselves and looking forward to seeing everyone in February, especially for the final race of the series, 2/25/18, which will be the first race of the 2018 Grand Prix.
We have many new activities going on and I hope each and every one of you are able to be a part of the comradery that comes from being a member of a club. Whether you spectate, walk, run, or volunteer, it is always heartwarming to see many smiling and friendly faces out on the roads.
I began this year with stating that POP UP runs or get togethers are very much encouraged. Jaime Insignares has begun Saturday morning training runs in preparation for the Celebrate Life ½ marathon and relay being held in Rock Hill Hill on 3/11/18. The runs start at 8:00 am at the Heritage Trail in Goshen, NY Please contact Jaime at XXX XXX XXXX for any further information. He also has regular Sunday am runs at 8:00 am also at the Heritage Trail. Vice-President Ed O’Connell and Social media secretary Dave Madden have created ‘Monday Miles’. These miles are held Monday evenings beginning from the YMCA parking lot. Please contact Ed O’Connell (845 591-9329) for further details. During the winter months, we also have Wednesday group runs from the YMCA in Middletown beginning approximately 5:45 – again, please contact Ed O’Connell of just show up ready to run and/or walk. All levels are encouraged.
I also spoke about our running club embracing the community and all that it has to offer. We have a skate park, Yoga studios, Heritage Trail enhancements and also some local running trails being developed in nearby Fancher Davidge Park. Please keep an eye out for further announcements or updates on either our ORC website or our Face Book page.
As we enter February 2018, I encourage all of you, both new members and long-timers alike, to embrace the club and help make it all that it can be to you. Get out and do some of the races and challenge yourselves. Seek out group runs to keep your inspiration and motivation at its peak. Volunteer for a club (or even a non-club) activity - it feels good to give of your time and efforts.
